Maria Besteman is the new project and communication manager at Basic Water Needs. Already in January 2014 she started working at BWN part-time, and as of the 1st of April she will be joining the team full-time. Maria will be responsible for the projects and partnerships with NGOs and the marketing and communication.

With an Msc in International Development Studies and experience in working in the WASH sector she was no stranger to Basic Water Needs. In her previous work for Connect International she gained much knowledge of Self Supply solutions for access to water, but also for household water treatment and safe storage.

Maria is very excited to be working for Basic Water Needs: “What I feel makes Basic Water Needs so unique, is that they do not only focus on the appropriate technology for clean water, but also on the supply chain to actually get that technology to households in the Base and Bottom of the Pyramid (BoP). This means that our products have to be available in local shops in poor neighbourhoods, for an affordable price that still enables local entrepreneurs to make a small profit. In order to reach this goal we work together with NGOs and other partners, and are constantly looking for new ideas and ways to accomplish our goal: safe water in every house.”
